Inside the Crown Court

1 The Judge
The Judge is here to make sure all the rules are kept and that the defendant has a fair trial. If the defendant is found guilty the Judge will pass the sentence down to him/her, or tell them they're free to go if found not guilty.

2 The Jury
The Jury is made of 12 men and women. They do not know the details of the case beforehand, their job is to listen to all the facts and decide whether the defendant is guilty.
If the defendant t is found guilty the judge will then decide how to punish him/her.
If the jury finds the defendant not guilty then the judge will then tell the defendant that he/ she is free to go.

3B Witness video room.
A room where the  young/vulnerable/intimidated can give evidence. The video is showing in the court room, on small screens.

4 The clerk
The clerk takes care of the papers that are needed during the trail.

5 The Prosecutor
The prosecutor is a lawyer for Crown prosecution service. They will present the evidence and show how the defandant may have broken the law
.

6 The defence lawyer,
The defence lawyer's job is to get the defendant off the charge. He will do this by getting the defendant point of view, and ask the witness questions.

8 Witness service
If you want the Witness Service to  assist  you and to sit with you in the court, here is where they will do that

7 The defendant.
The defendant is the person who the police believe broke the law. Sometimes their may be an officer sitting next to him.

9B/A The Usher
The usher will wear a black robe. They will tell you when to come into the court and will ask you to swear on oath.

10 The note taker
This person writes down everything that’s being said, so you must speak clear. The Judge may also take notes.

11 The Public
The court is open to the public, people may sit and listen in the background. If this worries a witness the court may be closed to the general public

3A Witness Stand
This is were the witness will stand or sit to give his her evidence.
