Inside the magistrates
court room:
1 The Magistrates,
The magistrates are in charge of the courtroom. Most of the time there is three of them, but sometimes there is one.
They don't wear wigs, or gowns, just their ordinary clothes. They decide if the defendant has broke the law.
2 The Clerk,
The clerk is the legal advisor to the Magistrates.
3 The defendant,
The defendant is the person who the police believe broke the law. Sometimes their may be an officer sitting next to him/her.
4 The defence lawyer,
The defence lawyer's job is to get the defendant off the charge. He will do this by getting the defendants point of view and ask the witness questions.
5 The witness.
The witness tells the court what they saw happened..
6 Witness Service.
If you want witness service to sit with you in the court here is where they will do that
7 The prosecutors.
The prosecutor is a lawyer for crown prosecution service. They will present the evidence and show how the defendant may have broken the law
8 The Usher,
The usher will wear a black robe. They will tell you when to come in to the court and will ask you to swear on oath.
9 The Public,
The court is open to the public, people may sit and listen in the back ground.The gallery may be closed to the public only if applicable and has been granted by the judge.
