The enhanced witness service. (VIW)

A free and confidential service. We support and prepare victims and witnesses of crime who are required to attend court and give evidence. This can feel daunting to some and we are here to help you feel more comfortable and confident in giving evidence.

Who do we support?

Children under 17 years at the time of the offence.

Victims/witnesses of a sexual offence.

Victims/witnesses of domestic violence.

Victims/witnesses of racial crime.

Victims/witnesses being intimidated by others.

Witnesses who have a mental illness.

Witnesses who have a learning disability.

What can we do for you?

We can provide the opportunity for you to talk about the court process.

We can normally carry out this work in the comfort of your own home.

We can find out answers to specific questions you may have.

We arrange visit to see the court before the day of the trial.

We aim to help you feel more comfortable and confident in giving evidence.

For young witnesses

We talk about going to court in a fun and exciting way.

We play games as part of our preparation.

We use booklets aimed at children.
